On July 11, 2025, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Sudan hosted a special Chinese movie screening at the E-Classroom on the main campus of the University of Juba. The event featured a historical film commemorating the 80th anniversary of China’s victory in the People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.
Mr. Zhang Duoxiao, Political Officer at the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Sudan, extended a warm welcome to a distinguished audience that included His Excellency Ma Qiang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to South Sudan; senior diplomats; the Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, Prof. Robert Mayom Deng; deputy vice chancellors; the registrar for academic affairs; deans and directors; and students of the university.
In his address, Mr. Zhang reflected on recent engagements between China and African nations, highlighting President Xi Jinping’s congratulatory messages to the Ministerial Coordinators’ Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), held in June 2025 in Changsha, the capital of Hunan Province. He emphasized the longstanding friendship and cooperation between China and African countries and reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting educational and developmental initiatives in South Sudan.
His Excellency Ma Qiang expressed his appreciation for the presence of the University of Juba’s leadership and students. In his remarks, Ambassador Ma underscored the educational value of historical films, describing them as powerful tools for learning and reflection. He stated, “We must learn from history and embrace the future by jointly building a community with a shared future for mankind.” His message highlighted the importance of historical understanding as a foundation for unity, cooperation, and global progress.
Prof. Robert Mayom Deng, Vice Chancellor of the University of Juba, reflected on the message conveyed by the film, emphasizing its powerful reminder of the human cost of conflict and the strength found in unity. He stated, “The film has taught us that to achieve freedom, unity is essential. It is crucial to ensure that we do not engage in war, as many will suffer as a result.” He further highlighted the strong and ongoing relationship between the University of Juba and the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of South Sudan.
